Romeo + Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream

In April of 2016, The Bridge was asked to collaborate with visual artist Carlton Scott Sturgill at The Gowanus Loft in Brooklyn. Following Scott's discourse on seduction in nature, The Bridge produced an original amalgamation of scenes from Romeo + Juliet and A Midsummer's Night Dream - four lovers intertwined under Scott's beautiful greenhouse. In discarding the routine staging of more classic interpretations, we distilled the themes of love and lust into a violent explosion of youthful sexuality; two couples sharing one bed, grappling with their desires and responsibilities. In June, The Bridge remounted our performance at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center on Staten Island.

The Bridge is excited about the prospect for continued collaboration with visual artists, lessening the gap between curated art and live theatre.
